Reverse Engineering

Contrary to popular belief, reverse engineering is not engineering in reverse but rather the art/science of recreating the form and function of a part or assembly to out-perform what already is. The process and outcome are similar to engineering design with the addition of conforming design constraints.

The added benefit to reverse engineering is by recreating from an existing part, this reduces revisions in the design cycle with the guarantee of process and product improvement. Additionally, reverse engineering can be used to create manufacturing independence from parts, assemblies or tooling that can no longer be sourced. Whether it be creating molds, dies, forms, patterns, plugs or just mission-critical components.

Techniques utilized for reverse engineering such as 3D Scanning, CT Scanning, CMM Probing and other various forms of digitization, can be used for creating new parts as well. This process is most notably used in the the production of forms for the carbon fiber, fiber glass and thermoform industries. Utilizing the above stated techniques will assure dimensional accuracy the first time, reducing the overall cost and time to production.

FARO Edge HD Scan Arm

FARO Edge HD Scan Arm

The ScanArm HD is the latest advancement in FARO’s Laser Line Probe product line and provides point cloud capture with rapid speed, superior resolution and high accuracy — all in a compact, lightweight and easy-to-use system. New functionalities allow users to seamlessly scan across diverse surface materials regardless of contrast, reflectivity or part complexity without any special coatings or target placement.

The FARO Edge ScanArm HD combines the convenience of a FaroArm with the power of a Laser Line Probe creating the world’s most affordable, high performance contact/non-contact portable measurement system.

Rapid Scanning Speed

The extra wide scan stripe and fast frame rate boosts productivity by increasing coverage and reducing scanning time.

High Definition Data

Intricate components can be captured in fine detail as a result of the 2,000 actual points per scanline the new blue laser featuring noise reduction technology.

Scan Challenging Materials

Seamlessly scan across diverse surface materials regardless of contrast, reflectivity or part complexity without any special coatings as a result of the improved HDR (High Dynamic Range) Mode and advanced software algorithms.

Highly Accurate and Repeatable

Reliable, repeatable and highly accurate measurement data is delivered with confidence as a result of superior optical performance.
